Bruna's is the 3rd oldest Italian restaurant in the city of Chicago and 8th oldest overall. Bruna's was opened by Bruna Cani in 1933, the year prohibition was repealed. Bruna was known as "Bella Bruna" and generously cooked for her patrons as well as danced on the bar in between cooking while her patrons sang. Her 93 year old daughter can frequently be seen sitting outside on the bench on pleasant days.

In 1981 ,Bruna became ill and sold the restaurant to Luciano Silvestri, a native of Siena, Italy. Luciano has worked extensively in London, Switzerland and the famous resort, Villa d' Este in Como, Italy. Before coming to Chicago, he spent time working on cruise ships sailing out of both the west and east coast.

Since both Bruna and Luciano are from the Tuscany area of Italy, many of Bruna's recipes were maintained. Bruna's concentrates on central and northern Italian cuisine and incorporates many dishes from Luciano's family in Italy. Frequent trips back to Italy are also the source of many dishes.

Bruna's is known for it's wide assortment of pasta dishes, excellentveal and of course Bruna's original recipe for Roast Chicken, stillserved on Sundays. We are also told that we serve the best Tiramisuin the city.

We also have an extensive wine list featuring mainly Italian winesas well as some California selections. We offer a Vino Nobile diMontepulciano wine by the glass or bottle that we have imported for us.
